Makeup Misdemeanors...

It ALWAYS bothered me when my mom would say, "Mere, you are wearing way too much foundation, rub it in -you have a line, it's too dark for you." Back then, I did not know the proper way of applying or picking the right shade of foundation. You may not realize it, but it is very noticeable when those 2 factors are off. Well, I have come to the rescue!

The first sign that you are not wearing foundation correctly is when you find your self blending your foundation all the way down your neck and onto your decollete (upper chest/collarbone area). Yes, you need to blend your makeup into your neck...but not so far down to the point where you are wearing it on your clothing! This only means that you are trying to match your neck to your face which in all cases, the shade you have chosen is wrong. Your foundation should not change the color of your face, it should match your complexion to a tee. **To find your perfect match, smooth foundation along your jawline and check your reflection in natural light I suggest carrying a compact mirror with you, and step outside.**

When blending, you should only have to blend under your chin and along the side of your jawline. The best foundation brush out there in my opinion is MACs 190 Foundation Brush. This brush is super soft and definitely gets the job done. It retails for $32 and is worth every penny.

When you can't see the foundation on your face, you know you have chosen the right shade. Oh yeah, one more thing....stay away from pinky foundations as they tend to make you look like you are wearing a mask. Yellow toned foundations are most natural on any complexion.

  1. Meredith, I love your blog! I love to experiment with makeup, but lately I've gotten in a rut, or I'm not wearing makeup at all because I'm really tan right now and haven't bothered to figure out what looks good. So it's good to find some inspiration on here, and get excited about the fall season coming up!
